Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
Mash the ripe bananas in a large mixing bowl using a fork or potato masher.
In a separate bowl, cream the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and softened butter until light and fluffy.
Add eggs to the butter mixture and mix well. Then, stir in the mashed bananas.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir until just combined.
If desired, fold in chopped nuts.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Bake for 60-70 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; if it comes out clean, the bread is done.
Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
