In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the softened butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk them together until fully combined and slightly creamy.
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt, whisking until evenly mixed.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the batter to avoid a dense loaf.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
Bake for 55-65 minutes, checking for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the bread. If it comes out clean or with a few crumbs, the bread is ready.
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
